This old Dodge Power Wagon is located in the old ghost town of Ballarat in Death Valley. From Ballarat the Barker Ranch (the murderous Manson Family hideout) is located up Goler Wash, requiring a 4X4 vehicle. According to several websites, this abandoned truck was the one used by Tex Watson when he attempted to escape authorities who were on the hunt for the Family. However, it broke down and was eventually towed to Ballarat. Tex Watson then hitchhiked to Texas where he was apprehended. In an interview by Manson family member Bobby Beausoleil to Oui Magazine in 1981 he claimed that he and Charles Manson drove two 4X4 Power Wagons around Death Valley just for the fun of it, this is assumed to be one of them. Another claim is that the Manson followers painted satanic symbols in the cab......stars can be seen if you look closely in the cab.
